The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. This error message may appear when running a downloaded installation file.
Two possibilities:
- The download file is simply corrupt. The only solution is to delete it and re-download.
- An icompatibility with a UK School Software utility called SIMS. The incompatibility is between the Installshield EXE builder and SIMS. In order to run SIMS on XP machines in a network environment, SIMS issue a patch which enables their DOS based modules to run correctly and not run out of variable space. This patch causes the problem - remove the patch temporarily and then install Ability. This applies to any software installation built with Installshield 3.0 and EXE builder.
